PermaFuturos

Active

from 01/06/2025 until 31/12/2026

PermaFuturos is a radical citizen social science methodology that empowers communities to understand the interconnected root causes of their climate-resilience challenges and co-create regenerative solutions.

Grounded in systems thinking and inspired by the seven domains of permaculture, it offers a structured yet highly participatory process that strengthens collaboration, builds local ownership, and generates practical pathways for community-driven climate resilience.

We guide communities to unpack the deep complexities behind their climate resilience challenges, making complexity tangible, and through this collective process we activate the power of community diversity. Citizens contribute their heritage knowledge, skills, backgrounds, and lived experiences. In a community, everyone matters; our role is to bring community potential to light through collective research and futures design.

Aim

Moving beyond sustainability narratives that stagnate in damage control, but to achieve regenerative awareness and action paired with research and policy adaptations, requires to address root causes of the lived climate resilience challenges on local levels – rather than treating the symptoms top-down.

This is where PermaFuturos sits. The project acts upon the essential precondition for resilient communities to thrive: the nurturing of regenerative community cultures from within. The PermaFuturos methodology enables to engages citizens in regenerative research and action who are not commonly engaged with the topic.

How to participate

The PermaFuturos methodology is available as methodology blueprint. Blueprint is designed for citizen social scientists, community guardians, engaged policymakers, and anyone interested in participatory regeneration-centred systems research and design to address climate resilience challenges.

Cultiva Lab offers the following participation and capacity building formats:

  • documentary screening and introductory lectures
  • master classes with experiential learning elementts
  • block seminars with methodology simulation cases
  • tailor made experiential methodology application to concrete cases
  • Training of Trainers program / facilitator trainings

Cultiva Lab is open to roll out the methodology in new contexts and is actively looking for new collaboration with citizen science projects, e.g. the integration of PermaFuturos in soil regeneration projects.
