Diese kommen aus ganz unterschiedlichen Bereichen: zum Beispiel aus der Forschung, Museen, Bibliotheken, Archiven, NGOs, der Verwaltung oder dem Gesundheitsbereich. So vielfältig diese Zielgruppe auf den ersten Blick sein mag, sie eint das Interesse an der Umsetzung partizipativer Projekte, an gemeinsamer Wissensproduktion und dem Einbezug der Bevölkerung. Genau in dieser Kombination aus Unterschieden und Gemeinsamkeiten der CAS-Teilnehmenden sehen wir eine grosse Chance für das Von- und Miteinander-Lernen und für die Vernetzung mit Gleichgesinnten, die sich in ganz anderen institutionellen Umgebungen bewegen und zu den verschiedensten Themen arbeiten.

Water-ForCE H2020 - Citizen Science for the CAL/VAL of satellite aquatic products

In situ data acquisition is an expensive process that needs high-frequency and broad spatial coverage to be fully useful in remote sensing calibration and/or validation exercises. An important new source of spatially intensive data acquisition, the crowd sourcing carried out inside of Citizen Science initiatives, has been developed in previous projects within the EU by, among other things, the development of tools and citizen observatories solutions. We will hear the experiences of Citizen Science tools developers and users and Citizen Science experts, as a basis for discussion during our expert panel time afterwards. Our aim is to fully explore the possibilities of Citizen Science for calibration and validation of Copernicus water quality and quantity products, focused in the identification of: Opportunities/potential for Cal/Val Gaps & problems Identified Needs Data Quality, format and uncertainties

ECSA 2022 Conference: Citizen Science for Planetary Health

Why “Citizen Science for Planetary Health”? Because the health of our planet is at risk. To preserve and support the well-being of all life on Earth, we need the commitment and efforts of everyone – policy makers, the public, business, science and research. Citizen science offers effective and innovative ways to do transdisciplinary research and influence decision-making in multiple areas and ways. Citizen science is particularly suited to connect diverse fields and diverse actors in the common endeavour of collaborating in research. The concept of planetary health is based on the understanding that human health and human civilization depend on thriving natural systems and the sustainable stewardship of those natural systems. This demands not only knowledge, commitment and engagement of health and environmental sciences, but inter- and transdisciplinary efforts from all research fields and societal and political actors. The ECSA 2022 Conference invites researchers from all disciplines, civil society actors, citizen scientists, policy decision-makers and all interested in the topic in Europe and worldwide to reflect, discuss and network around the topic of “Citizen Science for Planetary Health”.

Identidades Comunes: II National Meeting of Citizen Science Social Sciences and Humanities in Zaragoza (Spain)

"Identidades Comunes" is a space for cooperation and co-creation between project managers, researchers and participants in Citizen Science, social sciences and humanities projects. The national meeting to be held in Zaragoza on 20 September. Researchers, managers of Citizen Science projects, participants or members of associations working to generate knowledge in the field of social sciences and humanities, you are invited to participate with your initiative in this meeting. There are two options: one is present the project you are involved in through a 6-minute face-to-face talk. Up to 12 projects from all over the country will be presented and other is present your Citizen Science initiative in the form of a poster. There will be two panels discussion: The Gestation of Bottom - Up projects and Heritage digitalisation through Citizen Science The day will be completed with co-creation and prototyping project workshops.

Citizen Science and Universities: Summer Course in Santander (Spain)

The summer course "Citizen Science and Universities" organised by the Menéndez Pelayo International University to be held on 11, 12 and 13 July in Santander. Citizen science is already a methodology used in numerous research projects. One of the challenges posed by the course is to find the most effective way to open the university to citizens through Citizen Science. The main objective of this summer course will be to establish a strategic line of work that opens up and brings Citizen Science closer to universities: - The democratization of the knowledge that is produced in the universities themselves, bringing their research work closer to their environment. - Directly linking the scientific advances obtained at the university with the real problems of the society in which it is based, as well as proposing possible solutions. This course will facilitate the identification of strategies to involve the university system more actively in Citizen Science projects, identifying good practices to carry them out and reflecting on the key elements that determine the implementation of Citizen Science methodologies in university science projects.

Describing your citizen science project – How to present your project and recruit volunteers

In this installment of our webinar series, CS Track researchers will share tips and tricks for writing informative and engaging project descriptions and analyse concrete examples (both positive and negative) together with the participants. Moreover, participants will have the chance to draft their own descriptions and receive feedback from the presenters. Following a round of introductions and presentation of our research, the participants will analyse examples (good and bad), discuss good practices for writing project descriptions, and then draft their own project descriptions (for real or fantasy projects). The role of photographic heritage in empowering communities participation in cultural heritage

This event is organized by Photoconsortium in cooperation with the University of Pisa and will be hosted at the Museum of Graphics in Pisa (Italy). The event will take the form of a 1-day conference with leading speakers from the CitizenHeritage consortium partners and other experts in digital cultural heritage, in Social Sciences and Humanities research and in the use of participatory approaches in a cultural and/or educational context. The main aim of the event will be to offer insights about successful stories of citizen participation in Cultural Heritage Institutions and Higher Education Institutions. In addition to the conference programme, a digitization desk will be organized, inviting participants to share heritage photos from their family albums, which will be digitized on the spot by a professional photographer. The stories associated with the image(s) will be collected and converted in appropriate metadata to accompany the digital objects. The collected records will be aggregated by Photoconsortium and offered to Europeana for publication.

Cos4Cloud and its services for the citizen science community

Cos4Cloud is a EU-funded project that is co-designing, prototyping and implementing a number of new tools and services that address the technological challenges shared by citizen observatories. These services can help citizen observatories to improve data and information quality of observations and can be used as modules, so that any existing citizen science observatory will be able to choose and install the technological services they wish. In this webinar, we will give a short introduction of the project and present two of the services developed: MOBIS and FASTCAT-Cloud. MOBIS is a service to create integrative citizen science apps where you can report all your environmental and biodiversity observations in one Android or iOS app. FASTCAT (Flexible Ai System for CAmera Traps)-Cloud is an open website service that allows you to automatically filter out most unwanted pictures and video streams, keeping images of animals, and to integrate machine learning technology, among other things. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A with speakers. The webinar will last one hour. After closing the webinar we will keep the Zoom channel open for participants to ask further questions and make suggestions about how Cos4Cloud can benefit their citizen science project(s).

Citizen science to inspire educators – The importance of metadata and open data, online workshop, 14 June

Social media and online platforms are used by citizen science projects to share information about their work, how to participate, and motivate citizens to join them but also as a research tool. CS Track is exploring how communication is done and what type of information is shared. In this workshop, we want to share our insights on this and also explain how this data can be used in other contexts such as formal education. Furthermore, we would like to know more about your experience with metadata, metadata standards, and your ideas on how this data can also be used for other purposes. Who is it aimed at? How information about citizen science is shared online, the importance of metadata standards, and the uses of this data in educational settings. The critical role of Citizen Science in the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity

In this virtual session of the Fifth Science-Policy Forum for Biodiversity, representatives from leading scientific agencies, natural history museums from around the world, and other global experts and engaged citizens will exchange experiences on citizen science, reflect on its contributions in support of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework and discuss collaboration opportunities to scale up its impact. The outcomes of this event will be reported at COP15.

REINFORCE International Youth Art & Science Contest

The REINFORCE International Youth Art & Science Contest focuses on the concepts of fundamental physics, such as space, time and the nature and structure of the Universe. We are seeking artwork from kids aged 4-18 and all contestants have until 15 September, 2022 to submit their work. The winning entries will be presented during the 2022 European Researchers'Nights events at the European Gravitational Observatory and the finalists will be given the opportunity to participate in a virtual tour of the Observatory and the VIRGO detector (https://www.ego-gw.it). Those able to visit the site for the occasion will have the chance to undertake the tour in person! All participants will receive a REINFORCE Youth Artist Certificate and the artwork from the winners and finalists (a minimum of 3) will be published on the Platform for Artistic Intervention created on the Project website!
