TIME4CS webinar: “The Citizen Science Funding Landscape”

“The Citizen Science Funding Landscape” will provide participants with an overview of different funding opportunities for Citizen Science projects, on a national and international scale. The event will consist of a discussion with representatives of different funding sources at local, national and international level to discuss similarities and highlight specificities between the different approaches. The event will take place on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:30 CET. By attending this event, participants will have the opportunity to explore the wide-ranging Citizen Science funding landscape and get acquainted with new opportunities for Citizen Science initiatives.

Joint ICTP-IAEA Advanced School/Workshop on Machine Learning in Citizen Science

Come and try different forms of participatory research, where you take part in producing scientific knowledge. This is called “citizen science” and anyone can do it and either help scientists addressing challenges in the world, or come up with their own projects. During the event, which will be in English and in French, you will have an opportunity to experiment with different forms of citizen science. You’ll help scientists by classifying information about stars, check how dark are the skies, record how quiet or noisy is the neighbourhood, and learn about citizen science with indigenous groups in the Congo-basin forests, and how they are engaged in extreme citizen science. / FR- Venez essayer différentes formes de recherche participative, où vous prendrez part à la génération de connaissances scientifiques. C’est ce qu’on appelle la “science citoyenne” et tout le monde peut s’y mettre et aider les scientifiques à relever les défis du monde, ou proposer ses propres projets. Au cours de l’événement, qui se déroulera en anglais et en français, vous aurez l’occasion d’expérimenter différentes formes de science citoyenne. Par example, vous pourrez aider des scientifiques en classant des informations sur les étoiles, vérifier l’obscurité du ciel, mesurer le calme ou le bruit du voisinage, et découvrir la science citoyenne avec des groupes indigènes dans les forêts du bassin du Congo, et comment ils sont engagés dans une science citoyenne extrême.

Coming to terms with the multiple possible meanings of the term CS. The Activities-Dimensions-Grid of Citizen Science

Explanation of the grid. How it was developed and why., e. g. voluntary work versus influencing policies versus education versus making. How to place a CS activity. Obvious differences in potential (ethical) guidelines depending on where activity is placed. „Look & feel“ of the Grid. Learning how to apply it to become aware of potential caveats and ethical issues will help to organise citizen science activities in a way that creates a better cost-benefit-ratio and that systematically takes ethical issues and other challenges into account. Who is it aimed at? Anybody who is interested in CS: Scholars, practitioners, policy makers. Political scientists are welcome, too! What will you learn? Awareness what consequences it can have, if a heavily loaded term like CS is used without differentiation between the multitude of meanings. Citizen Science Nederland - Netwerk Meeting

Kan je ook niet wachten om (nieuwe) mensen te ontmoeten die zich bezig houden met Citizen Science en van elkaar te leren door je eigen ervaringen uit te wisselen? Kom dan naar de allereerste netwerk meeting van Citizen Science Nederland op woensdag 7 december in de Social Impact Factory in Utrecht. Iedereen die zich bezighoudt met Citizen Science - van burgerwetenschappers en lokale organisaties tot onderzoekers en beleidsmedewerkers - zijn welkom. Elkaar leren kennen staat centraal bij deze meeting, maar daarnaast willen wij ook graag samen met jullie het nieuwe netwerk vorm geven; "By the Community, For the Community". Aan het dagprogramma wordt nog gewerkt maar naast de plenaire en break-out sessies zal er veel aandacht besteed worden aan netwerken. De voertaal van deze eerste netwerk meeting zal Nederlands zijn. Please note, the event will mainly be in Dutch, but we will accomodate any non-Dutch speakers with a dedicated break-out session, and you may still enjoy attending the networking portions of the day.

Citizen Science Networking Day - Flanders (Belgium)

Scivil, the Flemish knowledge center on citizen science, is organizing a networking and learning event at the BMCC Bruges on November 15, 2022. We offer you an inspiring keynote speaker, a series of fascinating talks and workshops on different aspects of citizen science and a networking lunch. During this event, we will launch our latest guide, a guide on citizen science in education. The event runs in parallel to the Digiwijs event for Flemish teachers. We hope to create an exciting cross-pollination between citizen science practitioners and education professionals, both during the session 'citizen science in the classroom', and during the networking lunch. There will also be a focus on the topic of citizen science data, with lectures and workshops on data visualisation, data management, data-driven policy and privacy. During lunch, you can ask all your data questions at the Scivil stand, where data stewards of the Flemish Open Science Board (FOSB) will be happy to help you. There will be both sessions in Dutch and in English. Meanwhile, our program is finalized and registrations are open!

Forum on Impact Assessment in Citizen Science

On 5th July the MICS, CoAct and ACTION projects are co-hosting a forum on impact assessment in citizen science. This will be an opportunity to explore current frameworks, methods and tools for impact assessment as well as discussing what is currently missing for effective impact assessment and how we can monitor the contribution of citizen science to global societal challenges and the EU missions. The role of photographic heritage in empowering communities participation in cultural heritage

This event is organized by Photoconsortium in cooperation with the University of Pisa and will be hosted at the Museum of Graphics in Pisa (Italy). The event will take the form of a 1-day conference with leading speakers from the CitizenHeritage consortium partners and other experts in digital cultural heritage, in Social Sciences and Humanities research and in the use of participatory approaches in a cultural and/or educational context. The main aim of the event will be to offer insights about successful stories of citizen participation in Cultural Heritage Institutions and Higher Education Institutions. In addition to the conference programme, a digitization desk will be organized, inviting participants to share heritage photos from their family albums, which will be digitized on the spot by a professional photographer. The stories associated with the image(s) will be collected and converted in appropriate metadata to accompany the digital objects. The collected records will be aggregated by Photoconsortium and offered to Europeana for publication.

Cos4Cloud and its services for the citizen science community

Cos4Cloud is a EU-funded project that is co-designing, prototyping and implementing a number of new tools and services that address the technological challenges shared by citizen observatories. These services can help citizen observatories to improve data and information quality of observations and can be used as modules, so that any existing citizen science observatory will be able to choose and install the technological services they wish. In this webinar, we will give a short introduction of the project and present two of the services developed: MOBIS and FASTCAT-Cloud. MOBIS is a service to create integrative citizen science apps where you can report all your environmental and biodiversity observations in one Android or iOS app. FASTCAT (Flexible Ai System for CAmera Traps)-Cloud is an open website service that allows you to automatically filter out most unwanted pictures and video streams, keeping images of animals, and to integrate machine learning technology, among other things. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A with speakers. The webinar will last one hour. After closing the webinar we will keep the Zoom channel open for participants to ask further questions and make suggestions about how Cos4Cloud can benefit their citizen science project(s).

Open Innovaton in Science Research Conference 2022

Researching OIS includes investigating whether, how, and under which conditions applying open and collaborative practices along one or more stages of the scientific research process influences novelty, efficiency, and/or the impact of scientific research, taking a balanced view that recognizes important contingency factors on the individual, organizational, and ecosystem-level. Within this framework, paper presentation sessions at this year’s conference are, among others, related to citizen and crowd science, university-industry collaborations, data and material sharing, inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations, and scientific networks.

Innovative INOS: Bringing Open Knowledge and Innovation to Higher Education

Since 2019, the INOS project (Integrating open and citizen science into active learning approaches in higher education) has developed activities, experiences and tools to encourage HEIs to be part of this growing movement through teaching, learning, training and taking part in open innovation and knowledge activities. On the 3rd and the 4th of May the INOS project will hold a two-day online event to present the results and outputs of the project. The event will be split into three areas of discussion: - A general introduction to illustrate the ways that HEIs integrate open and citizen science into their practices. (3rd May AM); - A practical approach with workshops on pedagogical tools and best practices developed through the INOS project; - An inspiring discussion on the social role of universities through talks, a Knowledge Café to discuss the social and innovative impact that results from the practising of open and citizen science within HEIs. Online networking meeting for Young Science & Citizen Science contact persons

The OeAD Center for Citizen Science and OeAD Young Science regularly invite to network meetings for contact persons at Austrian research institutions. The network meeting offers space for getting to know each other and exchanging experiences. In terms of content, the focus of this meeting is on our annual topic “Eurobarometer survey and science skepticism in Austria”. The employees of the OeAD Center for Citizen Science will also give an overview of the planned activities and offers for 2022. The network meeting is aimed exclusively at Young Science contact persons and Citizen Science contact persons.
