Citizen science to inspire educators – The importance of metadata and open data, online workshop, 14 June

Social media and online platforms are used by citizen science projects to share information about their work, how to participate, and motivate citizens to join them but also as a research tool. CS Track is exploring how communication is done and what type of information is shared. In this workshop, we want to share our insights on this and also explain how this data can be used in other contexts such as formal education. Furthermore, we would like to know more about your experience with metadata, metadata standards, and your ideas on how this data can also be used for other purposes. Who is it aimed at? REINFORCE International Youth Art & Science Contest

The REINFORCE International Youth Art & Science Contest focuses on the concepts of fundamental physics, such as space, time and the nature and structure of the Universe. We are seeking artwork from kids aged 4-18 and all contestants have until 15 September, 2022 to submit their work. The winning entries will be presented during the 2022 European Researchers'Nights events at the European Gravitational Observatory and the finalists will be given the opportunity to participate in a virtual tour of the Observatory and the VIRGO detector (https://www.ego-gw.it). Those able to visit the site for the occasion will have the chance to undertake the tour in person! All participants will receive a REINFORCE Youth Artist Certificate and the artwork from the winners and finalists (a minimum of 3) will be published on the Platform for Artistic Intervention created on the Project website! What’s new in citizen science training: from open science to public engagement

EU-Citizen.Science contains a wide array of free, self-directed training modules on citizen science on its Moodle page. The themes of the training modules range from introduction to citizen science over research design and methods, engagement and impact to communication and regulations and ethics. At this event, we will showcase three of these training modules and offer the opportunity to meet the trainers who developed them. We will launch the final version of the EU-Citizen.Science platform and show its new features. Finally, the winners of the #MonthOfTheProjects campaign will be presented.

Ciencia ciudadana en apoyo a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS)

[ES] El próximo 30 de septiembre, el grupo OSDG (formado por la consultora lituana PPMI, el grupo SDG AI Lab del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (UNDP) y una creciente comunidad de investigadores) junto con el Instituto INAECU (UAM-UC3M) organizará la Jornada ‘Ciencia ciudadana en apoyo a los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS)‘ que se realizará de forma virtual. (reflexión en pequeños grupos). 18:15-18.30 | Observaciones finales y cierre [EN] On September 30, the OSDG group (formed by PPMI, the SDG AI Lab group of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and a growing community of researchers) together with the INAECU Institute (UAM-UC3M ) will organize the Conference 'Citizen Science in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)' to be held virtually. The day will be divided into three parts. First, an introductory table that will bring together international experts related to open science and the sustainable development goals. In the second part, we will present the OSDG Community Platform projec , a citizen science project that aims to analyze how science, technology and innovation can contribute to the SDGs through participation of multiple actors. Finally, we will hold a brief participatory activity on the approaches and the main dilemmas / challenges to achieve the goals established in the 2030 Agenda. The event is free of charge, join us!

Learn About Project Noah's Online Community & Moths of the World Mission

Join Michael Sarill of Project Noah for a virtual program about the popular online global community of nature enthusiasts and its collaboration with National Moth Week. Michael will lead aspiring citizen scientists through Project Noah’s Moths of the World mission, which provides a platform for uploading and publishing photos, creating a personal nature journal and learning about the natural world on projectnoah.org and its social media platforms. This virtual event is free and open to the public. It will be presented via Zoom.

The 8th STS Italia Conference will be hosted by the University of Trieste, Italy, June 17 through 19, 2021, by the Italian Society of Science and Technology Studies. It is our pleasure to announce that the calls for abstract are now open until December 18th, 2020. The conference will be an opportunity to present empirical and theoretical work from a variety of disciplines: sociology, anthropology, design, economics, history, law, philosophy, psychology and semiotics. The focal theme of the 8th STS Italia Conference will be "Dis/Entangling Technoscience: Vulnerability, Responsibility and Justice”. This broad theme refers to the complex and ambivalent role of technoscience and innovation in constituting societies – making possibilities flourish, but also creating new vulnerabilities. The conference will include 28 tracks, which are clustered into five thematic streams. The tracks focus on several topics, including: biomedicine, digital platforms and media, work and organizations, expertise and public policy, ethics of technology and innovation, and governance of science and technology at large.
