Workshop series: Common challenges in citizen science

Scivil and Stickydot are organising a series of four thematic workshops on common challenges in citizen science. These workshops are aimed at people who are involved or interested in coordinating, organising or supporting citizen science initiatives. Experience with citizen science is welcome, but not required, just your willingness to ask, share and discuss about the topic! Each workshop will kick off with a short inspirational testimonial by a citizen science practitioner, followed by breakout and plenary sessions where you will be discussing and exchanging questions, experiences and challenges with the other participants. The first one of these workshops will take place on the 30th of November; the second one on the 7th of December; the third one on the 14th of December; and the last one on the 21st of December. You can sign up for just one workshop, all four, or anything in between.

Webinar & Workshop "Copernicus: Europe's Satellite Data for Our Own Climate"

The event offers participants a first insight into the Earth Observation System "Copernicus" and the broad application possibilities of the openly available data. Copernicus offers freely accessible services in various fields, which among other things directly contribute to the monitoring of climate change. In addition, a limited number of participants will have the opportunity to get to know and use the Sen2Cube.at toolbox of the University of Salzburg in a professionally guided workshop. Sen2cube supports the image analysis of satellite data of user-defined regions and intervals. By means of an example it will be shown how these data can be used for own research. The event is in German.

Engaging the society beyond data collection

The challenges of ocean monitoring require data from everywhere at all times, we need to involve society in all steps of the process to achieve the information necessary to implement evidence-based policies in coastal and ocean management. This workshop is a Satellite Activity of the Event “A Predicted Ocean”, an Ocean Decade Laboratory organized in the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean for Sustainable Development. The workshop will analyse different challenges in volunteer participation in ocean monitoring projects: from potential barriers for volunteer participation up to how to improve the management of the cost and oceans developing evidence-based policies using in some cases the information generated in these participative processes. REGISTER HERE: https://www.eventbrite.es/e/entradas-workshop-engaging-the-society-beyond-data-collection-in-citizen-science-168961358973 The workshop “Engaging the society beyond data collection” will be divided into two parts: - First part: an overview of lessons learned in previous and ongoing projects. - Second part: moderated discussion (both in English and Spanish) with all the involved actors, including academia, industry, policymakers and civil society WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? This workshop is aimed at all the communities interested in participatory coastal monitoring: Academia, Industry (particularly SMEs), Policy Makers, and Civil Society (NGOs, local groups, environmental associations, Schools, …). Living Knowledge Online Festival

To fill in the gap in physical conferences, the Living Knowledge Network will organise an online “festival”. It is a joint effort of Groningen University and international partners. You will be able to see and hear some presentations that were originally scheduled for the physical conference. And participate in a number of workshops and live sessions. To make the best out of the situation, many presentations will be done by pre-recorded videos. This will allow you - in whatever time zone you are - to watch them when you want to and discuss them through a chat function. Video presentations will also limit connection problems we hope. During the festival, there will be a social corner to continue discussions, and we intend to organize a few thematic discussions. Like the live sessions and workshops, these will however be during European daytime only. More information will be available soon, as we’re still working on logistics. But we do hope to meet and greet all of you soon, even if it has to be online for now!

INOS Project Event – Integrating Citizen Science at Universities: From ‘What’ to ‘How

Should science focus on issues of public importance/respond to public concerns? What are the benefits of citizen involvement in scientific research? What are the pitfalls? These and many more questions are frequently raised by those engaging or wishing to engage in Citizen Science (CS). This two-day workshop is designed to provide input into what CS is and how CS projects can be implemented in universities and research libraries. The workshop will focus on: • The basics of CS and its benefits; • Requirements to take into consideration when involving citizen scientists in research projects; • Examples and benefits of integrating CS into educational programmes; • Practical guidance on how to develop and implement CS projects; • Examples of CS research projects. The workshop will be of a highly participatory nature, with participants required to work in small groups during their own time. The first session will take place at 10.00 CEST on the 2nd of June, followed by a session at 14:00 CEST on the 4th of June.

Neugierig geworden? Wunderbar! Melden Sie sich einfach über Eventbrite an.
