Pocket Science
Pocket Science designs, builds and operates tailor-made citizen science technology for researchers, universities, research institutes and international consortia worldwide.
A research team can commission one focused web, iOS or Android application, selected components, or a complete citizen science observatory. Depending on the project, our work can include participant applications, project websites, researcher dashboards, administration, data exports and APIs, secure self-hosted infrastructure, outreach, community building, end-user support, scientific sensor integration, data processing and machine learning. Every component is optional and tailored to the research method.
Pocket Science pioneered citizen science app development and has almost fifteen years of experience turning citizens into scientists. Our portfolio includes iSPEX, Black Hole Finder, Dark Sky Meter, Loss of the Night and Mini Secchi. Our own flagship instrument, iSPEX, demonstrates how apps, optical sensors, calibration, processing and citizen participation can become one scientific system.
We can be commissioned directly, take responsibility for a work package in an international consortium, provide multi-year hosting and support, or establish a continuing scientific partnership. We operate our own infrastructure and treat privacy, security, researcher access and long-term continuity as part of the system. Science is our passion. Enabling people to participate in meaningful research—and sustaining valuable technology beyond the grant—is our shared mission.
