Zavod YouSea

The YouSea Institute is a Slovenian non-governmental organisation dedicated to the conservation of marine biodiversity and the sustainable use of marine ecosystems. Based on the Slovenian coast, the Institute combines scientific knowledge, practical conservation, education and public engagement to strengthen the connection between people and the sea.

Its activities include marine research and monitoring, habitat restoration, regenerative aquaculture, citizen science, awareness-raising campaigns and educational programmes for children, young people, teachers and the wider public. Through its Blue Schools programme, the Institute helps schools integrate ocean literacy and experiential learning into education. YouSea works closely with research institutions, schools, local communities, public authorities, businesses and international partners to develop practical solutions for a healthier and more resilient Adriatic Sea.

YouSea is also a member of the United for the Sea consortium, which developed www.zamorje.si, a citizen science platform for collecting observations and data about the marine environment. The platform focuses primarily on the northern Adriatic Sea and the challenges it faces, while also welcoming contributions from other regions. Its aim is to strengthen public participation and foster constructive dialogue between local communities, researchers and public authorities responsible for protecting and managing the marine environment.
