Comparative Evolution of Marine Ecosystems in Biofouling Traps
Students from two schools in contrasting environments - urban and rural - collaborated on a scientific project addressing marine biofouling and invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea. They built experimental traps using recycled materials, learned to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools and developed sampling protocols before installing the traps in local ports.
Aim
To investigate biofouling and invasive species while building field ecology, GIS and scientific communication skills. The work linked classroom learning with practical environmental action and helped students communicate the value of protecting their local aquatic environment.
