FlowGuard: Empowering Education; Securing Waters

Completed

Through field trips to Olovo and Zavidovići, the project investigated the impact of mini-hydropower plants (MHE) on river ecosystems. The water quality in free-flowing rivers, Orlja and Krivaja, was compared to the river Gostović, which featured dams in its upper and lower flows. Additionally, the school acquired water quality kits to allow for ongoing analysis of temperature, pH, and chemical pollutants in local water resources.

Aim

To empower students in Bosnia and Herzegovina to understand and protect river ecosystems affected by hydropower and urbanisation. Student workshops showcased these findings and empowered participants to share knowledge within their communities, which fostered environmental awareness and advocacy.
