LAGOA – Look About the Ground and Over All
The Vilarinho do Bairro School, located in central Portugal near the Lagoon of Torres, implemented the LAGOA project to enhance knowledge of local biodiversity and ecosystem services among 100 students. The initiative utilised research-based activities to classify and map ecosystem functions including support, regulation, and cultural aspects.
Aim
To increase students’ understanding of local lagoon biodiversity, ecosystem services and the importance of conserving freshwater habitats. The work linked classroom learning with practical environmental action and helped students communicate the value of protecting their local aquatic environment.
