CoastaL wEtlAnds uNveiled: Empowering biodiversity monitoring through eDNA, ecoacoustics and citizen science (CLEAN)

Completed

The Burgaski lakes on the Black Sea coast represented a unique wetland social-ecological system and a biodiversity hotspot in Bulgaria. The CLEAN project deployed a comprehensive monitoring campaign, combining cutting-edge environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis, ecoacoustics, and iNaturalist BioBlitz observations. Students from the High School of Mathematics and Natural sciences "Dobri Chintulov" designed sampling protocols and carried out field.

Aim

To strengthen students' water and ocean literacy through practical activities addressing wetlands, biodiversity monitoring, eDNA, ecoacoustics, citizen science, open science, while promoting environmental responsibility, scientific understanding and community engagement.
