Natural-based solutions to protect Lake Sevan
This school project empowered students to protect Lake Sevan, Armenia’s largest freshwater resource. Students from Karmirgyugh N1, Gavar N2, and Gegharkunik schools gained hands-on experience in water conservation, organic agriculture, and nature- based wastewater solutions. Seminars and a visit to Byurakan’s “Chir’s House” provided practical training in water-saving crops, rainwater collection, composting, and the reduction of fertilisers.
Aim
The project successfully fostered collaboration among regional schools to promote organic farming as a nature-based solution aimed at improving the ecological state of Lake Sevan. The project supported learners in connecting local water issues with practical conservation actions, public awareness and long-term school-based sustainability practices.
