From Ljubljanica to the Sea: Connecting SLOVEnia’s WATER Worlds

Completed

Students compared water quality in the Ljubljanica River, the Slovenian sea at Strunjan and the Soča River. They sampled water at several sites, studied urban, industrial and agricultural impacts, visited wetlands and salt pans, and built a school pond modelled on the Ljubljana marshes to support long-term learning about freshwater and marine ecosystems.

Aim

To help students understand how local rivers, wetlands and the sea are connected, and how human activity affects water quality, biodiversity and ecosystem protection from inland areas to the coast.
