Ocean Gatekeepers
Ocean Gatekeepers connected a landlocked school community with ocean conservation through two themes: krill overfishing and circular responses to plastic waste. Students explored food webs, ocean acidification, blue carbon and biodiversity, used plastic recycling machines to create products, and communicated messages through artwork, campaigns and a whale mural.
Aim
To build student ownership of ocean protection by linking consumer choices, plastic waste, krill conservation and marine ecosystem health to practical school-based action.
