Inclusivity in Citizen Science Workshop
This workshop is the second of a series of webinars that aim to address diversity in citizen science. It is co-organised by four partners: ECSA, the ECSA & Living Knowledge Network Working Group on Empowerment, Inclusiveness and Equity, D-NOSES and Cos4Cloud.
First, Kylo Thomas (Making Spaces Project) discusses the importance of designing with and for everyone, and the necessity of making spaces feel safe for all participants. Then, Judy Ling Wong (Honorary President, Black Environmental Network) takes over and discusses the diversity of knowledge held by individuals and communities outside of traditional citizen science communities and the role media has to play in presenting existing diversity in citizen science. Finally, Dr Monica Ramirez-Andreotta (Project Harvest) addresses the importance of reaching underserved communities, as well as the importance of bi-directional open communication and participatory design.
