For the past two years, our mission has been to engage citizen science practitioners in developing tools and instruments for more liveable cities. In doing so, we launched the first online inventory of participatory air quality initiatives in Europe; we developed guidelines on behaviour and policy change in citizen science; and we came up with competencies and recommendations to increase digital inclusion in citizen science projects. As we look back on past achievements, we will also discuss what the future holds for citizen science. What does it take to make it more mainstream? Explanation of the grid. How it was developed and why., e. g. voluntary work versus influencing policies versus education versus making. How to place a CS activity. Obvious differences in potential (ethical) guidelines depending on where activity is placed. „Look & feel“ of the Grid. Learning how to apply it to become aware of potential caveats and ethical issues will help to organise citizen science activities in a way that creates a better cost-benefit-ratio and that systematically takes ethical issues and other challenges into account. Who is it aimed at? Anybody who is interested in CS: Scholars, practitioners, policy makers. Political scientists are welcome, too! What will you learn? Awareness what consequences it can have, if a heavily loaded term like CS is used without differentiation between the multitude of meanings. Webinar: Data protection, vulnerable groups and citizen science
This interesting webinar will shed some light on the challenges and possible solutions of data protection of vulnerable groups. In the first part, the webinar will focus on the guidelines and desirable practices when working with vulnerable groups to assure their rights are protected. Then, representatives of citizen science projects that work with vulnerable groups will give their insights. Afterwards, there will be an interactive exercise followed by a final discussion. Citizen Social Science School: Social Dimensions in Citizen Science
This virtual experience will take place online from 13-23 September. The main goal of this event is to offer academic researchers a common space and a shared time to reflect, discuss, learn, and receive practical guidelines to explore social dimensions behind a wide set of Citizen Science practices related to social issues and when involving groups and persons in a vulnerable situation acting as co-researchers.

The 8th STS Italia Conference will be hosted by the University of Trieste, Italy, June 17 through 19, 2021, by the Italian Society of Science and Technology Studies. It is our pleasure to announce that the calls for abstract are now open until December 18th, 2020. The conference will be an opportunity to present empirical and theoretical work from a variety of disciplines: sociology, anthropology, design, economics, history, law, philosophy, psychology and semiotics. The focal theme of the 8th STS Italia Conference will be "Dis/Entangling Technoscience: Vulnerability, Responsibility and Justice”. This broad theme refers to the complex and ambivalent role of technoscience and innovation in constituting societies – making possibilities flourish, but also creating new vulnerabilities. The conference will include 28 tracks, which are clustered into five thematic streams. The tracks focus on several topics, including: biomedicine, digital platforms and media, work and organizations, expertise and public policy, ethics of technology and innovation, and governance of science and technology at large. Abstracts (written in English, or in Italian in case of tracks in two language) should be submitted by December, 18 to the conference email address (stsitaliaconf@gmail.com) and to the emails of convenors' selected track.
