Oder bringst Du schon einiges an Erfahrung mit in partizipativen Projekten und möchtest über Deinen Tellerrand schauen? Dann bist Du hier richtig - egal ob ganz am Anfang einer vagen Idee oder schon mittendrin. Denn: Gemeinsam wissen wir mehr. Vielschichtige Perspektiven & Erfahrungen Neben Inputs zu zentralen Themen rund um partizipative Projektarbeit lebt der CAS von den vielschichtigen Perspektiven und Erfahrungen der Teilnehmenden. Diese kommen aus ganz unterschiedlichen Bereichen: zum Beispiel aus der Forschung, Museen, Bibliotheken, Archiven, NGOs, der Verwaltung oder dem Gesundheitsbereich. So vielfältig diese Zielgruppe auf den ersten Blick sein mag, sie eint das Interesse an der Umsetzung partizipativer Projekte, an gemeinsamer Wissensproduktion und dem Einbezug der Bevölkerung. Genau in dieser Kombination aus Unterschieden und Gemeinsamkeiten der CAS-Teilnehmenden sehen wir eine grosse Chance für das Von- und Miteinander-Lernen und für die Vernetzung mit Gleichgesinnten, die sich in ganz anderen institutionellen Umgebungen bewegen und zu den verschiedensten Themen arbeiten.

Österreichische Citizen Science Konferenz 2023
In Zeiten umfangreicher sozialer, ökologischer und digitaler Veränderungsprozesse sind wir als Gesellschaft auf vielfältige Weise gefordert, auf diese neuen Gegebenheiten zu reagieren, alternative Lösungsansätze zu finden und eine gestaltende Rolle einzunehmen. Wissenschaft und Bildung kommen dabei eine zentrale Rolle und Verantwortung zu. Die Vielschichtigkeit dieser Veränderungsprozesse erfordert die Zusammenarbeit nicht nur unterschiedlicher wissenschaftlicher Disziplinen und Bildungsbereiche, sondern vor allem auch den Brückenschlag zwischen Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft, Kunst, Wirtschaft und Politik. Die Österreichische Citizen Science Konferenz rückt die Kooperation zwischen Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft ins Zentrum und fördert den Austausch von Forschenden, Bürger*innen und Praktiker*innen aus Österreich, Deutschland und der Schweiz. Seit mehreren Jahren bietet die Konferenz, getragen vom Citizen Science Network Austria und der dazugehörigen Onlineplattform Österreich forscht, eine Ort des Austausches über die eigene Disziplin hinaus, hin zu neuen Forschungsformaten und -methoden, zu Erkenntnissen über oder entstanden aus der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft. Citizen Science kann auf verschiedenen Ebenen stattfinden, "global-regional-lokal", wie bereits auf dem Forum Citizen Science in Deutschland im Jahr 2022 diskutiert wurde. Citizen Science kann Auswirkungen auf Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft haben, wie das Motto "Wirkung durch Partizipation" auf der CitSciHelvetia 2023 zeigt. Und immer öfter stellen sich Forscher*innen, Entscheidungsträger*innen und Bürger*innen die Frage "Citizen Science - Warum (eigentlich) nicht?", wie auf der letzten Österreichische Citizen Science Konferenz 2022. Wir möchten bei der Österreichischen Citizen Science Konferenz 2023 auch bewusst eine Brücke zu den Schwesterkonferenzen in Deutschland und der Schweiz schlagen, um Diskussionen fortzuführen, Kooperationen zu stärken und neue Ideen und Methoden zu diskutieren. Die 8. Österreichische Citizen Science Konferenz 2023 findet von 19. – 21. April 2023 unter dem Motto „ver.suchen – ver.einen – ver.antworten" an der Johannes Kepler Universität in Linz in Kooperation mit der Ars Electronica statt. Beiträge können bis 7. #TranskriBUWmaraton is an event from 3 to 30 April 2023 as part of the Citizen Science Month celebrations. All interested readers and supporters of University of Warsaw Library will have the opportunity to cooperate in discovering, reading and transcribing historical handwritten documents, within a dedicated group on the FB profile of the University of Warsaw Library. This time we invited our colleagues from faculty libraries to cooperate. Especially for this occasion they chose interesting, rare and often surprising materials. Among them there are marginalia of one of the most eccentric Polish artists, handwritten maps, certificates labeling unique geological specimens and descriptions of plants from the so-called Hundred-year-old Herbarium. Together, we will try to unravel one of the unexplained mysteries of the Second World War, hidden in an encrypted and unread document from the collection of the Manuscripts Department of the University of Warsaw Library. And this is just a small part of what awaits you this year! We invite the entire academic community and all interested parties - both amateurs and specialists in their fields - to help in making historical sources more accessible and useful. As part of the project, for four weeks in April, we will be posting scans of selected handwritten documents on the TranskriBUW Facebook group. The task consist in reading and rewriting the text of the documents as precisely as possible and publishing the prepared transcripts in the comments section. The correctness of all prepared transcripts will be verified by University of Warsaw Library employees, who will further decide to link them to the scans of manuscripts placed in the Crispa. Digital Library of the University of Warsaw (https://crispa.uw.edu.pl/). Transcriptions will improve the readability as well as facilitate search and access to these handwritten documents. Everyone will be able to use them freely. The language of the event is Polish.
Join the NEWSERA final conference in Brussels – or follow the livestream – on March 29th 2023 to learn about the project’s journey and results, and join the conversation around citizen science communication and citizen science journalism. During the event, hosted at the “BIP Meeting Centre”, the NEWSERA Consortium members will discuss the achievements of the project and present the NEWSERA Blueprints on innovative citizen science communication. These documents are the results of the many learnings of the #CitSciComm Labs and will be presented with the participation of representatives from the NEWSERA Pilots. Moreover, the NEWSERA final conference will be an occasion to go deeper into the concepts of citizen science communication and citizen science journalism, and will feature the participation of fellow EU-funded projects ENJOI, COALESCE, IMPETUS, and ECS. After the event, participants are invited to visit the DATA4CitSciNews exhibition at 7PM, which was first launched in Barcelona in November 2022. Hosted in the impressive venue “Au Bassin”, the exhibition will showcases several artworks to set off the concept of citizen science journalism, through alternative visuals, installations and critical narratives. The exhibition aims to spark a discussion about how citizens and journalists and well designed data collection can be the drivers behind investigation to ultimately respond to societal needs and benefit communities.
Why do citizen science? The tension between data and engagement
Citizen Science is an increasingly popular approach to scientific research that involves collaboration between professional scientists, societal actors, and the public. One of the challenges of Citizen Science is balancing the need for accurate and reliable data with the desire to engage and involve as many people as possible in the research process. This co-organised Hot Pot will feature a panel of experts in Citizen Science who will discuss their experiences and perspectives on how to balance data quality with community engagement in Citizen Science projects. The panelists will cover topics such as the importance of community engagement in Citizen Science, the challenges of ensuring data accuracy and reliability, and strategies for achieving a balance between these two goals. The event will include time for audience questions and discussion, providing an opportunity for attendees to share their own experiences and insights
CitSciHelvetia is the Swiss Citizen Science Conference. CitSciHelvetia connects Swiss stakeholders in Citizen Science and participatory research in general, promoting the exchange of experiences and shared learning between the three language and cultural regions. It serves as the platform for professional exchange with Science et Cité hosting the second Swiss Citizen Science Conference. CitSciHelvetia'23 will take place on March 29 and 30, 2023 at Landhaus Solothurn. It follows the motto “Citizen Science – Making impact participatory!”. The conference addresses project leaders and project staff of Citizen Science projects, representatives of universities, research institutions, NGOs and associations as well as people who engage themselves in Citizen Science on an institutional level. In addition, the conference addresses representatives of science communication, transdisciplinary and participatory research, and Open Science. Registration for the Swiss Citizen Science Conference is open until March 8, 2023.
The event will celebrate the achievements of Crowd4SDG. Join the Final Conference on 17 March to find out more about how citizen science and crowdsourcing tools can be used to address the SDGs and climate action. The culmination of three years of Crowd4SDG is shown during the Final Conference, delivering the results of Crowd4SDG and outlining plans for how ideas and projects can continue beyond the project’s end. The timetable is brimming with a series of presentations, panel discussions and hackathons, relevant for all. The Final Conference will include input from all partners of Crowd4SDG; CERN, Université de Genève (UNIGE), Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (IIIA-CSIC), Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), United Nations Insitute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Université de Paris Cité. TIME4CS webinar: “The Citizen Science Funding Landscape”
“The Citizen Science Funding Landscape” will provide participants with an overview of different funding opportunities for Citizen Science projects, on a national and international scale. The event will consist of a discussion with representatives of different funding sources at local, national and international level to discuss similarities and highlight specificities between the different approaches. The event will take place on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:30 CET. By attending this event, participants will have the opportunity to explore the wide-ranging Citizen Science funding landscape and get acquainted with new opportunities for Citizen Science initiatives.
Cos4Cloud final event: its legacy for the citizen science community
The Cos4Cloud project is coming to an end! To wrap up over three years of the project and its community, Cos4Cloud and ECSA are co-organising a final event for everyone interested to learn about the project’s main achievements, discover how to use Cos4Cloud’s products and celebrate the community that has actively contributed to the project. The event will take place online on 2nd March 2023, 15:00-16:15 CET. What can you expect during the event? 1) Learn about the main project achievements and legacy of the project for the citizen science community. 2) Discover how you can take advantage of Cos4Cloud’s products and outputs and where to find them (13 services to improve citizen observatory technologies, the co-design methodology guide, the educational guideline, etc.). 3) Celebrate the community that has actively participated in Cos4Cloud events to improve the services, the co-design methodology, and to learn how to integrate citizen science into school practice.

ECS Satellite event on Science Communication
The 2023 Annual Conference of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) will be held in Cordoba (Spain) on 24-25 February 2023. The day before the Conference - 23 February 2023 - a Science Communication Training Workshop will be held as a satellite event, organised by the European Citizen Science (ECS) project in collaboration with the MCAA Communication Working Group. The overall objective of the European Citizen Science (ECS) project is to enlarge, empower and strengthen the European Citizen Science community through training, capacity building and awareness raising activities which encompass the whole range of needs and challenges. As a member of the project consortium, the MCAA is taking part in several work packages and tasks. More specifically, through the ECS project, the MCAA will support the co-creation of the European Citizen Science Academy by designing training for educators, trainers, and researchers. As part of the ECS project, the MCAA is organising the training workshop “Science Communication: How to create a successful research blog.” Blogging is a powerful and effective way to communicate research to a wider audience and engage citizen into the science endeavour. Within the general framework of citizen science, in this workshop participants will learn the ins and outs of what it takes to explain their research in a popular science blog that can be understood by anyone. The one-day full-immersion workshop will be highly interactive and aims to teach by doing. It will also be an introductory course into science communication for researchers with and without prior experience. During the training workshop, participants will: - have an overview of citizen science and the ECS project - learn how science communication can positively impact society as well as a researcher’s career - write a short popular science blog that can be published after the workshop - learn to adjust the text to the communication goals and audience - learn how to reduce the scientific complexity and make scientific insights accessible and interesting The training will be guided by Science Matters, a leading European science communication agency led by scientists, with extensive experience in supporting universities, companies, media, and museums. The training workshop is open to both MCAA members and non-MCAA members. In order to make it as interactive as possible and provide personalised feedback, the workshop is limited to only 30 participants. The deadline for registration is 30 January 2023, 23:00 CET. Selection of participants will be done on a rolling basis, until all 30 seats are filled. Thanks to the support of the ECS project, participants will be able to attend the workshop paying a fee of 150 Euro, which corresponds to a 50% discount on the full price.
The OceanItalians group is organising a webinar in Italian on some examples of citizen science in the marine environment in Italy. Participants include Rosario Balestrieri from the Stazione Zoologica, Anton Dohrn in Naples (sightings of sea magpies), Francesco Tiralongo from the University of Catania (alien species), and Eleonora de Sabata for MedSharks and Clean Sea LIFE (citizen science and sharks, but not only), coordinated by Ines Borrione. Come and try different forms of participatory research, where you take part in producing scientific knowledge. This is called “citizen science” and anyone can do it and either help scientists addressing challenges in the world, or come up with their own projects. During the event, which will be in English and in French, you will have an opportunity to experiment with different forms of citizen science. You’ll help scientists by classifying information about stars, check how dark are the skies, record how quiet or noisy is the neighbourhood, and learn about citizen science with indigenous groups in the Congo-basin forests, and how they are engaged in extreme citizen science. / FR- Venez essayer différentes formes de recherche participative, où vous prendrez part à la génération de connaissances scientifiques. C’est ce qu’on appelle la “science citoyenne” et tout le monde peut s’y mettre et aider les scientifiques à relever les défis du monde, ou proposer ses propres projets. Au cours de l’événement, qui se déroulera en anglais et en français, vous aurez l’occasion d’expérimenter différentes formes de science citoyenne. Par example, vous pourrez aider des scientifiques en classant des informations sur les étoiles, vérifier l’obscurité du ciel, mesurer le calme ou le bruit du voisinage, et découvrir la science citoyenne avec des groupes indigènes dans les forêts du bassin du Congo, et comment ils sont engagés dans une science citoyenne extrême.
